Rust Remover: Rust Remover
Iron or steel structures may appear solid, but when water molecules penetrate through microscopic pits or cracks and come in direct contact with exposed metal, a new compound called an oxide is formed through chemical reaction. This weakens the bonds of the metal and reduces the paint adhesion resulting in paint flaking and thereby resulting in faster corrosion of the metal. If the metal is exposed to marine water, the salt (sodium chloride) content in the water further accelerates this rusting process.
Rourke’s Anti Rust is the perfect solution under such tough environments to protect your metals against rust and corrosion. It is the perfect preparatory solution for the treatment of corroded steel and iron surfaces. It neutralizes the corrosion process by converting the rust into a blue black metallo-organic complex and further protects the surface by forming a film over the metal isolating the metal from coming into direct contact with the environment. Rourke’s Anti Rust Solution has low permeability properties. It strongly resists water vapor and oxygen trying to seep through the paint. A single coat of Rourke’s Anti Rust Solution will greatly extend the life of a “touched up” paint work.
We recommend Rourke’s Anti Rust Solution as a preparatory solution for all your metal painting works. Some of the most common usages include painting wrought iron gates, iron furniture, steel or cast iron components, garden bridges, deck railings, engine parts, Engineering tools, machine forgings, castings, vehicle bodywork/chassis, boats, structural steel work etc. If a proper anti rust solution is not applied before painting the metal, the paint will flake off easily since rust will loosen adhesion properties of the paint. Rourke’s Anti Rust Solution has self-priming properties but for long term protection we recommend to use it as a base before a suitable topcoat primer is applied.
Rourke’s Anti Rust Solution can be applied by spray or brush. The surface should be wire brushed to remove loose rust and it is preferable to remove soluble salts by washing with water as they inhibit the conversion process. Rourke’s Anti Rust can be applied over damp surfaces and will touch dry in approximately 10 minutes at 20°C under suitable humidity conditions. Rourke’s Anti Rust should not be applied at temperatures below 10°C or when there is a risk of condensation or rain during this drying period.
